I've just read a lesson from the AI-Guide handbook on building assessment questions with AI: open-ended, multiple choice, true/false, problem-solving. The key idea: the AI produces in volume, but you add the value by choosing and calibrating the questions on Bloom's scale, and by checking the distractors of the multiple-choice ones (a good distractor is an error a student actually makes, not an absurdity). I want to build a test for my class. Before answering, ask me these questions ONE AT A TIME, waiting for my answer before moving on: 1. What subject or discipline do you teach? 2. At what level (primary school, lower secondary, upper secondary / high school, university, adult learners) and which specific class or year group? 3. On what topic of the syllabus do you want to build the test, and which Bloom levels do you want to aim at (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create)? 4. What question format do you plan (open-ended, multiple choice, true/false, problem-solving, or a mix) and roughly how many questions? After I've answered all four questions, apply the technique: A) Generate the set of questions in the format and at the levels I gave you, calibrated to the topic. B) For each multiple-choice question, write underneath, in one line, why a student might pick each distractor. If you can't justify a distractor, flag it: it means it isn't plausible and should be rewritten. C) For the problem-solving ones, keep the step-by-step solutions separate from the prompts, so I can detach them before handing the sheet to students. D) For each question, state the Bloom level you aimed at, but warn me that I have to check it myself: answering as an average student, if I get by on memory alone it wasn't "analyze". Also warn me, at the end, that I have to reread everything and verify the precise facts (dates, formulas, definitions) against a source, because on those you can be confidently wrong. If at any step you need information I haven't given you (the syllabus covered, the examples already done in class, the unit glossary), ask me instead of making it up. Be concrete: no generic templates, no "this depends on your context", no lists of possibilities. Show me one specific application, grounded in what I told you.
